  • create and conduct the Master’s exams, recruit teachers for the program, and coordinate efforts between the U.W. and area schools.

Changed and updated the programs
  • Collaborated with Jacqueline Karbon, DPI Reading Consultant, about State Standards as related to the Licensure Programs
  • Aligned the Reading Licensure Programs with IRA/NCTE Standards
  • Considered which IRA/NCTE standards are met in each of the courses required for the Reading Teacher License.
  • Redesigned course requirements if holes or gaps were found.
  • Ensured that each standard is met in at least two of the required courses.
  • Developed course descriptions and descriptions of course projects that align with these IRA/NCTE standards.
  • Aligned the U.W. Literacy Area Portfolio Requirement for the 316 Reading Teacher License with IRA/NCTE standards demonstrating the proficiency level of reading professionals.
  • Incorporated the language of a recent Wisconsin State Standards draft into the descriptions of required course projects.
